The College of Social Sciences was established in 1998 with four academic departments: Sociology and Social Work, Psychology, Geography and Geographic Information Science, and Political Science. These departments offer bachelor's degree programs in their respective disciplines. In 2001, the College expanded with the addition of the Department of Library and Information Science, which was later renamed the Department of Information Studies.
The College is committed to making an effective contribution to the preparation of qualified professionals in the fields of social sciences. It achieves this by equipping students with scientific knowledge, professional expertise, information literacy, critical thinking skills, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork competencies. The College also promotes scientific research, advances knowledge dissemination, and contributes to community development.
The College attracts a large number of students, with approximately 3,765 enrolled students and 106 faculty members. In 2004, the College relocated from its original campus in Kaifan to its current campus in Shuwaikh.
In addition to undergraduate programs, the College offers master's degree programs in Psychology, Information Studies, Geography, Political Science, and Sociology and Social Work. It also offers a joint Master's Program in Applied Earth Sciences and Geographic Information Systems (GIS), administered collaboratively by the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Science in the College of Social Sciences and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the College of Science. The College continuously evaluates and develops its academic programs to ensure quality standards and maintain competitiveness at both the regional and international levels.
