The Department of Political Science offers a Bachelor's degree through a curriculum designed to keep pace with developments in international relations, political affairs, and scientific research methodologies. Its courses enable students to understand the terminology and concepts used in political science while equipping them with the analytical skills required to examine international relations at the regional, Arab, and global levels. The program also develops students' research capabilities, enabling them to study political phenomena, conduct scientific analysis, prepare reports and research papers, and understand the nature of political processes across different cultures and historical periods.

About

The Department of Political Science plays a distinguished role in higher education and community service through its undergraduate (Bachelor's) and graduate (Master's) academic programs. It also contributes by offering professional training programs, public seminars, and workshops. Faculty members actively participate in specialized scientific conferences, academic seminars, and panel discussions addressing contemporary local, regional, and international issues. In addition, they engage with the broader community through social media, analytical articles, newspaper interviews, and regular appearances in national and international media outlets.

The department offers both Bachelor's and Master's degree programs in Political Science for majors. It also provides students from other academic disciplines with opportunities to broaden their understanding of political science through a minor program, available to students from the College of Social Sciences and other colleges at Kuwait University, as well as through a range of general education courses open to all university students.

The department is committed to providing students with a solid foundation in political science by introducing them to the core concepts, terminology, theoretical perspectives, and schools of thought within the discipline. Students develop the analytical skills needed to examine political and international relations at the local, Arab, regional, and global levels while strengthening their research abilities in political analysis, report writing, and academic research. The curriculum also emphasizes understanding political processes from both cross-cultural and cross-temporal perspectives.

Recognizing the importance of developing communication, public relations, leadership, and administrative skills—supported by modern information technology—as well as decision-making, monitoring, evaluation, and reporting skills, the department has introduced a Field Training course. This course bridges theoretical knowledge with practical experience, better preparing students for successful entry into the labor market.

The department is currently implementing a comprehensive review of its academic program to ensure alignment with recent developments in political science and international relations. It also seeks to strengthen academic collaboration with other departments within the College of Social Sciences, including Geography, Psychology, Sociology and Social Work, and Information Studies.

Graduates holding a Bachelor's degree in Political Science are well qualified for careers in a wide range of academic, governmental, and private-sector institutions. Employment opportunities are further enhanced when students complement their major with a minor aligned with labor market needs. In general, graduates are well prepared for positions in public institutions, governmental agencies, and private organizations.
