About the College

 

The College of Social Sciences was established in 1998 to include four departments: Sociology and Social Work, Psychology, Geography and Political Science, all of which lead to a Bachelor's degree in Sociology and Social Work. In 2001, the college expanded with the addition of a new department, the Department of Library and Information Sciences, which later changed its name to the Department of Information Studies. The college seeks to contribute effectively to the preparation of qualified specialists in the fields of social sciences, by providing students with scientific knowledge, professional practices and experiences, information skills, critical thinking skills, the ability to solve problems and teamwork. In addition to encouraging scientific research, disseminating knowledge and contributing to the development and growth of society.

The college attracts a large number of male and female students, with approximately 2,800 registered students and 114 faculty members. The college moved to its new buildings in Shuwaikh in 2004 after being in Kaifan since its establishment. The college offers master's degrees in psychology, information studies, geography, political science, sociology, and social work, in addition to a joint master's degree in "Applied Geosciences and Geographic Information Systems" between the Department of Geography and the Department of Earth and Environmental Sciences in the Faculty of Science. Academic programs are continually evaluated to ensure quality standards and global competitiveness.

The administrative team works collaboratively to oversee various aspects of the college's functions, from academic affairs to student services, research facilitation, and infrastructure management.
