Dr. Nayef Alghais’s academic and professional journey began with a master’s degree in applied Geosciences and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) at Kuwait University—a pivotal step transforming his career. Before pursuing his master's, Dr. Alghais worked for two years at the Kuwait Institute for Scientific Research (KISR), where he gained practical experience but recognized the need for a deeper academic foundation.
During his master’s studies, he honed his GIS skills, learning to apply spatial analysis to urban planning, resource management, and environmental risk assessment. This foundation inspired further academic pursuits, leading him to a second master’s degree in Geographic Information Science at the University of Queensland, Australia, and eventually a Ph.D. in Population Geography using spatial modeling.
Now an Associate Professor at Kuwait University, Dr. Alghais has published a number of peer-reviewed papers, supervised innovative research projects, and inspired a new generation of geographers with his expertise and passion for GIS.
