Master of Arts in Social Work

INTRODUCTION

 The Department of Sociology and Social Work (College of Social Sciences) offers a M.Sc. program in Social Work. English is the language of instruction and research. The aim of this program is to prepare graduates for leadership in professional social work practice within the areas of Clinical Practice, Planning and Administration. It signifies achievement of professional competence in Social Work. The program offers thesis option. 

According to the University Council decision dated 4/2/2007, Thesis students admitted with effect from September 2007 are exempted from the comprehensive examination.

9 COMPULSORY COURSES (3 credits each)

15    COMPULSORY SUBDISCIPLINE COURSES 

Student should obtain (15) credits in one of the following fields of specialization.

 Track 1: DIRECT PRACTICE (3 credits each)

 1370-504 Advanced Practice with Individuals and Families 

1370-506 Advanced Practice of Group work 

1370-508 Advanced Practicum I 

1370-510 Applied Clinical Practice Evaluation 

1370-512 Advanced Practicum II 

 

Track 2: MACRO PRACTICE (3 credits each) 

1370-505 Advanced Practice with Organizations and Communities 

1370-507 Advanced Administrative Skills for Social Work Practice 

1370-509 Advanced Practicum I 1370-511 Program & Services Evaluation 

1370-513 Advanced Practicum II 

 

9 ELECTIVE COURSES* (3 credits each) 

Track 1: DIRECT PRACTICE: A student has to take minimum of one course from this group

Track 2: MACRO PRACTICE: A student has to take minimum of one course from this group

1370-517 Macro Social Work Practice & Policy Advocacy 

1370-519 Strategic Risk Management in Agencies 

*Students may substitute up (3) credit hours from compulsory subdiscipline or elective courses, or any approved courses offered by Kuwait University, with the approval of the Program Director.
